Washington, D.C. — Senators Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), Chuck Schumer (D-New York), Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland), and Todd Young (R-Indiana) today sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urging the secretary to vigorously oppose China’s leadership in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) given China’s persistent violations of intellectual property protections, including through trade secret theft, corporate espionage, and forced transfer of technology. Cotton, Schumer, Van Hollen, and Young write that China’s intent to lead the World Intellectual Property Organization, a specialized agency of the United Nations, poses a significant threat to both U.S. economic security and the integrity of international IP rights and standards. https://www.cotton.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=1328
